One hundred years ago, your family name was recorded. Now they’re remembered — beautifully, permanently, in calligraphic art.
When your ancestors left Ireland and stepped onto foreign shores — in Boston, in New York, in Sydney, in London — the first thing out of their mouths was their name. That name was everything. It was where they came from, who they were, and what they carried when they had nothing else. It was Ireland itself, spoken aloud in a strange land.
The 1926 Irish Census was the first compiled by a free Irish state — a nation finding its feet after revolution, after famine, after a century of loss that scattered Irish families to every corner of the globe. The names in that census are the names of people who stayed, who struggled, who built something from the ruins. And the names of those who left — and carried with them Ireland in their hearts.
For one hundred years, those records were sealed. Now they are open. And now, for the first time, families around the world can find their people — their townland, their address, their place in the story of Ireland.
The Irish Heritage Scroll was made for this moment.
Created by Karen Brennan — sixth-generation Irish calligrapher and artist, with artistic roots in County Mayo stretching back to 1815 — this large-scale illuminated scroll is drawn in the ancient tradition of Irish manuscript art. Celtic knotwork, the four provinces, a DNA double helix binding past generations to present, vignettes of loved landmarks marking the 4 provinces : Th Cliffs of Moher, Glendalough, Croagh Patrick Mountain and The Giants Causeway. Every stroke and line by hand. Every name lettered in calligraphy especially for your family, 200 years in the making.
This is not just a print. This is your family’s place in Irish history, made beautiful enough to hand down through generations. The 1926 census return form in the national archives showed you that your family belonged. The Heritage Scroll cloaks the record in a ceremonial address.
